cask Shares- What are Those?

Not a new concept in whisky at all but yet have never truly been sung from the rooftops as they should have been. But first, let’s face the grim reality. Casks cost a lot.

First of all, you have to buy a quality empty oak Cask, you have to find a reputable and fair distiller to sell you lots of liquid to fill it and then you have to pay to move it, store it for years and years and eventually bottle and label it ensuring you comply with all the laws that go hand in hand with the process. Quite a lot to take in I am sure you agree.

Then the tax man takes his cut. Value Added Tax is due on all whisky at the point leaves the bonded warehouse- even if you bought it ages ago. This adds 20% to the cost in the UK. Then you have to pay duty. Duty is the tax levied on alcohol by the government. In the UK, it is £28.74 per litre of pure alcohol for Spirits. If we break that down to a bottle of whisky at 50% ABV, then the cost is additional £10.06 per bottle. That is a lot of cash if you have 250 bottles to pay it on.

So yes, Casks cost a lot. However, hope is not lost.

cask shares

Cask shares split single cask whisky into smaller and more affordable chunks. Rather than having to shell out thousands for a full cask, cask shares allow multiple people to buy part shares in the same cask reducing the cost while giving you access to all the benefits of cask ownership.

Owning your very own cask of whisky is a much sought after dream that almost

Which distillery? Which cask type? What age? Is that even available? Do I have enough spare pennies?

What we told you that there was lots of casks available and new ones coming out every month. You don’t have to choose just one.
