gift ideas for the whisky lover
Oh what to buy for the person who has everything? Birthdays and Christmas happen every year. For lots of people. Finding the right gift can be a real challenge!
Well “they like whisky” I hear you say. We have a short list here of our favourite six whisky themed gifts for the malt lover in your life.
1. a bottle of whisky
OK we probably didn’t need to tell you this one. However, you are here because someone you care about LOVES whisky.
Maybe consider going for something unusual instead of simply picking up the same old safe bet from the supermarket. There are great independent whisky specialist stores in every major city who would be delighted to help with a recommendation. If you want something truly unique, why not go for a “single cask” whisky. These are normally very limited bottles from just one barrel. Unique, delicious, irreplaceable and a one off experience.
That is what our malts are but they won’t be ready until Spring 2021. Why not try Morrison and MacKay– they have been producing great single casks at good prices for years. Otherwise, you can pre-order one of our very first single cask editions here for delivery in 2021.
2. very own cask of whisky
This is a dream come true for just about every single whisky lover. Unsurprisingly, it doesn’t come cheap.
Every cask of whisky is unique and tastes different from the one next to it. With Scotland’s many distilleries and so many different types of cask to choose from, there is so much amazing whisky to be created.
Owning your own cask gives you control to do whatever you want; choose the whisky, choose the age, choose cask type, choose the strength. It can be as involved or as “hands-off” a process as you like.
All casks much be stored in an approved whisky bond warehouse in Scotland. That’s why we include a free year’s worth of storage and insurance with every cask sold.
Most cask owners visit their cask every year or so to sample it and taste it’s progress in maturation. It is a really exciting thing to see evolve and at the end, you are rewarded for your patience with the bottles of whisky arriving on your doorstep. You also get to choose your own label.
Prices start at £1799 which includes lots of extras.

3. a cask share
Owning your very own cask of whisky is a much sought after dream that almost every single malt lover has thought of at one point. An ideal gift then! But how to decide? Which distillery? Which cask type? What age? Is that even available? Do I have enough spare pennies?- it can be very expensive.
What if we told you that you could buy a share, or as many shares as you like in a different casks. What if we told you that there was lots of casks available and new ones coming out every month. You don’t have to choose just one. What if we said all the legal stuff was done, storage was covered and tax already sorted.
That sounds a bit more simple and a more gift friendly doesn’t it?
Whisky casks are what we do and this is what you get from one of our cask shares. Check them out here:

4. glassware
We’ve all got our favourite tea mug or our favourite wine glass. Whisky lovers are no different. Drinking a single malt out of a proper whisky glass completes the experience and makes the dram.
The Glencairn glass is the standard in dram glasses and is available in almost every whisky store and online. They make both the traditional tulip shape and the copita glass with a stem.
If you are looking for something more off the beaten track- why not try Angles Share Glass? They handmake everything and we’re big fans.
5. whisky stones
Whisky stones are a great gift or stocking filler for under a tenner for the malt drinker who takes their dram cool or with ice. The stones are kept in the freezer before being added to your whisky. The chill the dram out without melting and watering the dram down. Very cool (pardon the pun).
6. tasting experiences
With all this COVID malarkey, we are all missing being out and about. One thing that had to stop is all the whisky tastings and whisky club meetings. However, that didn’t stop those whisky enthusiasts for long.
Online zoom whisky tastings are now a very big and ever growing thing. Sign-up to receive your dram samples through the post and join the zoom chat at the arranged time to talk to the experts while you enjoy the drams.
